I congratulate the boys at SG PTB as Time is probably the first episode that worked as a sci-fi adventure. In part it's because it was the closest thing to a working emsemble episode we've seen. In part it was - and I never thought I'd use this term again - basically noromo. Yes, I am ignoring Eli's confession.

Light on soap and heavy on monsters.

Mind you, if SG:U were to become the dark and adult show they proclaim themselves to be they could have done without the... handwave at the end of the episode which utterly obliterates any dramatic gains made from Chloe's death and TJ's heart wrenching sobs (and yes, seeing her huddled against a corridor bulkhead, at the end of her tether and utterly distraught did endear me a little.) Death could stand and not be retconned via solar flare.

The two conversations Rush had also work for me in some small way, though I really question one thing: Wikipedia claims that at the close of Sg-1 Season 10 (and I wasn't watching by then) Daniel Jackson is alive and working at the mountain with Doctor Nicholas Rush. If Rush's goal is Acension then why the ship? Why the Destiny? Why couldn't Daniel just bloody teach him to shrug off his mortal coil if that's what scratches his itch???!!!

On and if you're watching and you missed RC's pose, when he stands hands on hips in jeans, in the middle of the jungle set - have yourself another eyeful. Omg, tis thudworthy. Also worth noting is how the jungle set seems to be used by him as a stage in terms of stillness and commanding of the space when he's in an ensemble scene.

Such a frigging shame about the handwave that ties up the plot! The show might have made itself worth watching if they hadn't done that.

X-posted from my dreamwidth, because hey - conversation!

Let us, I pray you, good madame, draw a touching veil over the endearing notion that (a) the Density is so far away from The Woobie Planet that a wormhole from the ship to the surface must intersect a solar flare, (b) that The USS Lassie the Density, while having the smarts to lead Little Timmy the crew to the planet of the Poisonous Space Hamsters just so they can get the cure for the disease in the water THAT THE DENSITY APPARENTLY COULDN'T PURIFY IN THE FIRST PLACE, (c) couldn't manage to route the path of the wormhole around the solar flare. Which same flares don't make a Gate go on the fritz that way anyway...

Pity they all didn't stay dead.

If Rush is so goddamned interested in Ascending, why isn't he: (a) sucking up to Daniel Jackson (b) sucking up to the geeks at Area 51 so he can play with their Ascend-o-Meter (c) boogie-ing off to the Pegasus Galaxy which is just chock full of members of The Ascension Of The Month Club (d) in a military prison somewhere for trying to convert Earth to Origin because he wanted the Priors to Ascend him?

I wonder if the bugs who were drinking all the water got sick, too.

Or maybe caused the contamination.

I guess we're supposed to have forgotten about them (like the writers did)?

It just felt like it had been done before, too many times. Although the toxic lizzards and contaminated water were a nice touch as different ways to die.

The ending frustrated me completely.

I can't help but wonder why Rush felt that it was necessary to tell the team on the planet that 4 people had died on the ship. Scott found out his 2 lovers were dead, Young had to try to get Scott back focussed on the mission, and it seemed like only Greer was alert when the worm-y things attacked.

Hey, Rush. They really didn't need to know. Really.

First episode I didn't actually hate. Shame it took 7 more before it to get here.
