You know, something just occurred to me...

The Density is supposed to be farting Stargates into the void, right?

So why are there obviously-ancient old-skool Stargates on The Planet Of The Air-Scrubbers and like that?

Also, what keeps them from dialling home on any of them?

Lastly, if someone else says "We're Not Supposed To Be Here" I shall do something dramatic.

Do they have the place-of-origin symbol anywhere? Or are they doing a repeat of Stargate-the-movie's 'let's guess the symbol'? Because if they have it, yes, they could go back to Earth, or P3X something or other or any number of other places.

Can these people, in other words, find their way out of a paper bag that has not been closed?

Well, much as I hate defending this show, I'll give them this much, at least--they couldn't dial back to earth.

Reaching another galaxy (and they're many galaxies away) requires far more power than is available on your standard stargate. It requires a ZPM (an Ancient uber-battery) or two. Or a whole planet devoted to powering the gate, as in the pilot of this execrable series.

So they can't just dial home. The ship was running on fumes when they arrived. Or they couldn't before the ship charged up its power cells. They'd damn well better TRY in the next episode, though.

Nah... For reasons of plot device, the ship is only charged up to 40% of its possible power.

Seriously, though. I don't believe that crap about them being billyuns and billyuns of galaxies away. The Ancient Communication Stones work just fine, and even though we've seen them used intergalactically [TPTB apparently believe a "galaxy" is something about the size of Ottawa], there are limits...
