I think I figured out what they are doing with the characters in SG:WTF.
In SG-1, we loved our characters. We loved them so much that the writers couldn't really do what they wanted with them/kill them off indiscriminately/or change actors. When they tried, we the fans actually succeeded in making them take a character back (wish it worked for Janet too!). Until, that is, they figured out that they could abuse them as much as they wanted as long as we got to watch them week after week.
In Atlantis, it was mostly the same. But by this time they figured as long as we had a few favorite characters, they could switch out/kill off most of the others. We would still watch.
Because we loved the characters and the whole premise of the shows.
Now, I just figure they WANT us to hate all of these losers so they can have free rein to anything they want to them and we won't even care. They think we will still watch.
I think I would be a little more accepting of their evil plans if they hadn't cancelled both the shows I loved so much first. If Atlantis was still on it might be just a little bit better (but I wouldn't count on it).
I will watch for now - 'cause I am addicted to Stargate in almost any form- but I am just not emotionally invested in this series like I was with it's predecessors and I probably never will be.
