Here Now The News

I don't know which is more annoying: this whiny bitchboy's pious rant against "SGU Sucks", or the SGU Sucks site, if it's doing what he says it is.

I checked both that link, and then the helpful one that SGU Sucks provides as a sticky at the moment. The mother who was attacked? Actually fought back first. (I'll leave the link, but be warned: run-on paragraphs, bright pink background and a clash with the font.)

While I'm certain that both sites don't tell the entire story, the actor's mother very clearly went on offensive, complaining to Gateworld about how they should have silenced the SGU critics and several other actions. I'm not certain how they attacked her--the forum makes my head hurt--and I'm definitely not encouraging that. I think that fighting back is in poor taste.

However, if I'd had to read through that dreck, I'd have fought her too. I am actually still at a loss for words: as far as I can tell, she compares SGU critics to people who are on welfare. I am uncertain what to make of this analogy.

The site may well be engaging in personal attacks - I don't go to that site so I don't know. Two thoughts come to mind. One is that personal attacks are not the way to go. Second is that if Hinman is talking about the site attacking family, then my first thought is that he is referring to Brian J. Smith's mother, Sherry, who has offered plenty of provocation.

Sherry has (apparently) been a regular commenter on Joe M's blog and is highly critical of any negative comments about SGU. She's also very active in the same manner on Twitter. There also seems to be a connection between her and Gateworld's recent crackdown on any negative comments about SGU in the forums.

As she explains in detail, she went to Gateworld and was displeased to see "a group of people voicing their "opinion" about why Stargate Universe is not what they want." She contacted the owners of Gateworld "were unable to explain to me why they continued to allow this "minority" to continue to ruin what these two individuals have worked hard to build". Right about then came the the new rule.

Oh, and did you know that folks who don't like SGU are suffering from a false sense of entitlement, are the same as welfare cheats working the system. They are also incapable of success and "they could never act, write, produce or even sweep the floors for SGU. ".

So, if SGUsucks is poking at Sherry, I can understand why they are, even if I think it would be best to ignore her.

Yes, but you knew more about her than I did. I was still boggling at that absolutely confounding post.

Can I just say that between her and the folks at Alpha Site, I want to go curl up at the other end of the internet? Because really, Alpha Site, I like being anonymous. It helps to keep my sanity intact, damn it. It's not actually cowardly.

Airlock Alpha used to be called Syfyportal. Guess who Syfy bought their new name from? :) He posted at least once about how personally painful it was to read the comments from folks who hated Siffy's name change so maybe he's reacting personally to this, too?

...I knew they weren't creative enough to come up with the Syphilis branding on their own, but someone else was proud enough of the name to sell it?

Also, what was he smoking when he created it?

Oh, he sold it - but to a shell corporation so he had no idea it was NBCU behind the acquisition. Though at first he said he was pleased but later it seemed that he was very unhappy at the lost chance for a bigger sale price.

When I started Airlock Alpha 12 years ago, I made it clear that we would always use real names on this site.

Because there is no reason for anyone to ever use a pseudonym on the internet. Ever. There is no possibility that using one's real name could compromise a poster's personal safety.
